Protect yourself
Verify before you trust
Fake overseas job offers cost people their savings and sometimes their safety. Here’s how to protect yourself, and how to check that an offer really comes from us.
Warning signs
Signs of a fake offer
- You are “guaranteed” a job or visa without an interview
- You are asked to pay money to a personal mobile money number or personal bank account
- The salary sounds far too good to be true
- There is no written contract, or you are told to sign one you haven’t been allowed to read
- You are pressured to decide or pay “today”
- You are told to travel on a visitor visa “and change it later”
- Someone asks to keep your passport
- The recruiter has no office you can visit and only communicates by social media
